We will make a difference

In Canada, we enjoy one of the highest standards of living in the world. Many of us are able to wake up every day grateful for the opportunity to go through life without great concern for our personal safety. This is a reality we would like to share with others.

Who we are

The Families at Risk Refugee Sponsorship fund is a joint project of Hospitality House Refugee Ministries and Knox United Church, along with support from the Families at Risk Refugee Appeal Sponsorship Fund Committee, a small group of concerned Winnipeggers that believe they can make a big difference in the lives of those at risk.

Our members come from different faith backgrounds, ethno-cultural communities and life experiences, but share a commitment to raising the funds and in-kind support required to sponsor families at risk.

What we are doing

At Families at Risk, we are committed to bringing about positive change in as many lives as we can.  With your contribution, we can help families that are in dire need of assistance. These families have fled from some of the and most dangerous places in the world.

With your help, we will give them reprieve from their dangerous situations by helping them find safety in Canada.

Why we are doing it

We are a small organization of people looking to make a big impact.

We operate on the personal support of our committee members and people like you - people interested in investing time or money to bring about positive change in someone’s life. We believe that every bit of your investment should support those in need.

To this end, we have kept things small, simple and focused.

Together, we will make a difference.

How you can help

We have established the Families at Risk Fund  to allow us to sponsor refugees whose lives are at risk.  We are currently raising money to sponsor two families. In order to sponsor these two families, the Government of Canada requires that we raise $52,025 to cover their living expenses for one year.

We invite you to join us by making one-time or regular, monthly contributions.  Any funds that are not used in support of these two families will be used to sponsor other families.  Hospitality House Refugee Ministries will administer these funds and will issue charitable tax receipts to donors.

We are also happy to accept in-kind donations of goods and services that can help support our families when they arrive in Canada. These generous contributions will reduce our overall sponsorship requirements and will get us even closer to our goal of providing families at risk with the new beginning that everyone deserves.

If you are interested in volunteering your time to support the families when they arrive in Canada, we are more than happy to have as much help as we can. Change can be difficult, but having a strong community in place to support our families while they adapt to their new life will help everyone adjust as quickly and painlessly as possible.
